The Polymer Technology Laboratory (LATEP) signs a collaboration agreement with the China Plastic Processing Industry Association (CPPIA)

During the celebration of the 2024 China International Plastics Exhibition, an exhibition that has been held in Nanjing (November 1 to 3) and that brings together more than 1,000 exhibitors and around 74,000 participants, with the participation of companies, industries and research centres related to plastic material, the China Plastic Processing Industry Association (CPPIA) has signed a framework collaboration agreement with the Rey Juan Carlos University and the Polymer Technology Laboratory, which was represented by its director, Dr. Carlos Domínguez, who also presented the work entitled “New materials and challenges for plastics in pipes, automobile and other industries” where he reviewed the most important research lines in which the LATEP has been actively involved in recent years.

The China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA) is an association with more than 5,000 members, including enterprises, public entities, social organizations, collegiate bodies and research institutes. The CPPIA was founded in 1989 and is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. During the signing of the agreement, which was attended by more than 400 representatives, Carlos Domínguez pointed out that “in such an important year for LATEP when is celebrating its twentieth anniversary, in which LATEP has reached its highest level of quality and excellence as well as its highest number of high-value projects, it is a joy that through this agreement with the association of the plastic processing industry of China we help to continue creating bridges between Spain and China in scientific research.”

Likewise, the President of the CPPIA, Wang Zhanjie, pointed out in his speech during the signing ceremony that “for an association like the CPPIA in the year in which it celebrates its 35th anniversary, it is also a success to sign this framework agreement of collaboration with an University and a laboratory that are a reference, contribution this agreement to the objective of increasing the international collaboration of the association and also to the development and success of the new challenges that the plastics industry has ahead.”

During his stay in Nanjing Carlos Dominguez has also participated in the Asian Plastic Materials Forum (Asia Plastic Forum 2024) whose main theme this year was sustainable development and where he gave the conference entitled “From fishing nets to car bumpers: New opportunities for recycled polyethylene and polypropylene in a Circular Economy” where he presented some of the most important results of the LATEP in terms of Circular Economy and recycling of plastics from both fishing nets and the automotive sector and in which the LATEP has been recently granted.
